The Salem and Hillsborough Railroad

Come and enjoy a relaxing train ride on the Salem and Hillsborough Railroad (S&H) for a 1.5 hour (4.5 miles) diesel-hauled excursion in antique coaches through rural New Brunswick. Or enjoy a home-cooked style meal on our diesel-hauled dinner train on an 3.5 hour (9.5 mile) trip into the Caledonia Hills. Visit our museum where steam engine 1009 is located.

The Salem & Hillsborough Railroad is a tourist railroad and museum operated by a small group of volunteers from the Canadian Railroad Historical Association (New Brunswick division). Diesel hauled passenger trains are operated on Saturdays and Sundays from mid June and on Wednesdays from mid July to Labour Day. Diesel hauled public dinner trains are operated approximately monthly until the end of October with four Turkey Dinner trains over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.

The CRHA (NB), in conjunction with the Village of Hillsborough and other sponsors, is building a replica of the 1881 Albert Railway station at Hillsborough. We held an Open House, Friday October 4 2002. We were celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Official Opening of the Albert Railway. The original party was held at Hopewell Corner (later Albert & now Riverside Albert).

The Salem & Hillsborough Railroad is proud to have assisted the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN) with the making of the Adventure Train Game. Two of our members, Art Clowes and Marcel Keays, shared their technical and historical knowledge with CHIN. Why don't you take a few minutes and go check it out?
