History
This car was built by CC&F in April 1930 on lot number 870 as one of 2,252 cars. It is of the same lot
as open air box car S&H 6578. Its original number was 508140 which it held until 1972, when it was
converted to Atlantic Region Engineering Department Clothes Drying Car. The conversion included insulating
one end of the car and providing an oil stove for heat. It is 40' 6" long inside, 44' 9" overall,
2990 cubic feet and weighs 45,100 lbs. Its original cost was $5,926.
This car is presently stored on the Scale Track within the wye, and is in need of extensive restoration
work to the wooden siding, etc.
