History
This outside braced 40 foot steel framed box car steel was built in 1930 by the Eastern Car Company, Trenton,
Nova Scotia. In 1973, this box car was converted to work equipment car No. 74886. At that time the
windows, end doors, etc. would have been added. Over its working life, box cars of this type would have
carried all kinds of freight, ranging from car-load lots of such things as farm machinery, various bulk
commodities like grain to smaller items such as in "LCL" loads, (less than carload lots) of parcels being
shipped around the country. They were the standard "work horse" of the railway during the 1930's and 1940's.
As mentioned this car finished its life on the CNR as a Work Equipment in "OCS" service.
Since arriving on the S & H this car has become our railroad’s "Tool Car".
