History
Number 42 was built at Schnectady Locomotive in New York state in 1899 as Sydney & Louisburg #16. It was built as
a 2-6-4T tank engine, serial number 5103, and was rebuilt around 1947 as a 2-6-0 tender engine and renumbered 42.
In 1955 it was transferred to Acadia Coal Company as number 42. Following the dieselization of Acadia Coal, Mr. Robert
Tibbett of Tibbett's Paint purchased the locomotive. From 1973 to 1979 it was leased to the Cape Breton Steam
Railway, which operated over part of the old Sydney & Louisburg line. It was on loan to the Salem &
Hillsborough Railroad for 5 years, returned in 1992.
